What Apple said

So what did Apple say at this big press conference they held today? Pretty much what everybody thought they would. First, they talked about how great sales of the iPhone 4 have been. Then, they demonstrated how signal attenuation happens on a few other phones when you grip it just right, namely the Blackberry Bold 9700, the Droid Eris, the Samsung Omnia II, and they also threw in an iPhone 3GS for good measure.Their point was that signal attenuation happens on most every smart phone, and the iPhone 4 is no different.

Then they got down to what they're going to do about it. First of all, they released the iOS 4.0.1 software update, which is supposed to more accurately display signal strength. In addition, they will be giving a free case to every iPhone 4 purchaser up until September 30th, and if you've already purchased a bumper case, you'll be able to get a refund. Since there's a shortage of bumper cases right now, Apple will be giving customers a few different options for cases. You'll be able to apply on Apple's website starting late next week. And if you're still not happy, there's always AT&T and Apple's 30 day return policy.

What do you think? Is this enough to satisfy customers who have complained? Should Apple have done more? Sound off in the comments.

Update: Apple's put up a video of the press conference on their website. Check it out here.
